Planning The Perfect Engagement Party

April 5th, 2017

You've been proposed to and gifted with the most amazingly beautiful diamond engagement ring. Now it's time for you and the groom-to-be to throw an engagement party. While it may sound like a daunting task, it's an important occasion and a time when your families can get to know one another. If you're worried you won't be able to pull off the post-proposal party, not to worry we have some tips that will make it easier!

1. Develop the guest list. It's easy to want to invite everyone you know, but this isn't feasible. The important thing to remember is you don't need to invite only those who won't receive a wedding invitation; however you don't have to include every person who will receive an invitation, either. Invite your immediate and closest family members, along with special friends and close co-workers. Put careful thought into your list so as not to offend anyone!pexels-photo-225228

2. Choose the venue and date. Once you've chosen the venue, it makes planning the menu and other aspects of your party easier. For instance, if you want to host the engagement party in the backyard of a close friend or family member, you know it will be a casual affair with a simple menu and relaxed dress. A private setting in a restaurant or hotel is a bit more formal, so the menu may be a little fancier. Your engagement party can be as casual or formal as you like, but set the date as close as possible to the date you actually became engaged so the excitement of the moment will be captured.

3. Decide on the menu. This depends on the venue you selected. If you've decided to have a casual bash in the backyard, finger foods such as cheese, deviled eggs, shrimp cocktail, veggies and dip, cocktail meatballs, and other easy-to-eat foods are great and allow the guests to mingle. If the party will be hosted in a private room at a restaurant/hotel, you can keep your budget under control by pre-selecting some of the menu options. Make sure the menu is varied so there will be something all of your guests will like.

4. Keep the decorations simple. Your wedding will likely be the most extravagant affair, so don't go overboard on decorations for your engagement party. All you really need are a few floral arrangements, candles and perhaps some twinkle lights. Keep it basic, and most of all keep in mind it's about celebrating your love and upcoming life together.

Hopefully these suggestions will help make planning your engagement party easier and less stressful!
