How to Find My Engagement Ring Size

The Importance of Proper Sizing

When you’re shopping for your engagement ring, you may be focusing on details like the center stone, metals, and side stones, but have you given much thought to ring size? Many of the women who come to The Wedding Ring Shop are younger women who’ve never owned a piece of luxury jewelry. If that’s the case for you, you may be working off assumptions about your particular ring size as well. However, it’s important to know that relying on assumptions about your engagement ring size can be costly and time-consuming.

If your ring size is too big, you’ll have to invest in features like sizing beads or spring inserts to prevent it from falling off your finger. If your ring is too small, the problem is even more critical—you’ll have to have the physical structure of the shank altered for you to even wear it. And keep in mind that certain styles can’t be resized, such as channel settings or invisible-set diamonds.

But there’s no reason for you to have to deal with these crises! Luckily, the process of how to find your engagement ring size is a straightforward one.

How to Find My Engagement Ring Size

The first option for finding your engagement ring size is to visit us here at The Wedding Ring Shop. Since 1987, we’ve been serving the finest selections of bridal jewelry, and that experience has given us the ability to find the most comfortable ring size for you without any hassle on your part. Still, even if you can’t come visit our showroom, there are a few methods for finding your ring size at home.

Traditionally, engagement rings are worn on the left hand’s ring finger. Regardless of your choice, you should never assume that your hands or fingers are the same size! For most people, their dominant hand is larger, so simply measuring one hand will lead to a faulty result. At the end of the day, when your fingers are at their largest, take a string and a marker. Wrap the string around the first phalange of your ring finger and mark where the string overlaps itself. Measure the length in millimeters and refer to a chart to convert the length to a ring size.

Alternatively, if you aren’t comfortable with that method, there’s also the “soap bar” option: If you have a ring, but you aren’t sure of its size, you can take a bar of soap and make an impression of it. Once you have the opportunity to come visit us at your leisure, you’ll have the imprint ready to show to our team, and we can measure it for you!
